Dry sorting and high-speed planer mill

Smarter final sorting

There have been major changes regarding the final sorting of lumber in recent years. One important factor is the increasingly competent measure and scanning systems available in the market. With these systems, the limitations of the human eye and its assessment is removed, bringing forth a more consistent sorting regardless of runtime.

This has contributed to a substantially increased capacity for sorting facilities in recent years, as the role of the operator has shifted from sorting lumber to monitor and planning. There has at the same time been a considerable progress mechanically as well as in control and drive systems.

Higher capacity and more consistent sorting quality

Dry sorting

Here at CGV we have extensive experience of constructing dry sorting's and can today deliver scalable facilities that can be expanded for greater capacity.

These systems are tasked with receiving lumber after the drying process, cutting it to various lengths and sorting the lumber after its correct qualities. After packages of lumber emerge from the package stacker, they should for the most time be wrapped and prepared for delivery to customers.

Automatization of processes has been in focus in recent years so that the work of the operator would consist of monitoring and restocking material for the most part.

High-speed Planer mill

CGV have delivered several high capacity planer mills since the first one in 2007.

Instead of having the production pass through one dry sorting and one or several smaller planer mills, production is run through one dry sorting with an integrated planer.

This type of facility has been around for several years in North America and Europe and is particularly suitable for products that require a simpler type of planing.

CGV have developed this concept further and adjusted it for the conditions in the Nordic countries.

Lug Loader & Servoloader

Our fastest Lug loader consists of a rotating drum on which there are tongs that grabs the lumber piece and controllably transfers it to the lug chains. We also have other solutions with simpler Lug loaders for a lower capacity.

By-pass

By-passing the unscramblers ensures an optimized function when running larger dimensions. When running over the unscramblers, wood damage and noise levels are reduced and efficiency is increased.

Stick handling equipment

To minimize deformation of the lumber that can occur during the drying process, the number of sticks in the packages has gradually increased. Leading to a significant increase in the amount of sticks being received by the stick intake, at the same time as a higher capacity of a dry sorting has been achieved in connection with the installation of optimization systems.

Positioning fence

The Positioning fence is used to transport and position the lumber pieces so it can be cut precisely as calculated by the optimization. CGV have different designs and variations for the Positioning fence depending on speed and stroke.

Tray sorter

CGV have delivered Tray sorters since 1986 which at the time had a top speed of 70 pieces per minute. Since then the system has been further developed to for example high-speed planer mills and the production rate is now over 200 pieces per minute.

Package stacker for Dry sorting

Our machines for package stacking have been developed with a focus on capacity, efficiency, and simplicity for the operator. We drew inspiration from Nc-controlled machines in engineering workshops, which means that most movements are fully synchronized with each other. This type of controlling is simplified through our control system which has an integrated motion controller in the PLC. Movements are calculated with the optimal run profile automatically, which reduces the number of recipe parameters and simplifies adjustments for the sticker stacker. Resulting in a more exact machine that can be run with smaller margins and without effecting the efficiency.

CGV Wrapper

Customers of sawmills have increasingly higher demands regarding the packages length and wrapping, it is not uncommon with half-packages which are covered on 5 sides today. Combined with the higher production rate it renders a challenge for press and wrapping lines in many sawmills today. CGV have delivered automatic wrapper solutions for packages of lumber since 2015.

Strip nailing unit

Sometimes you want to place the straps under the packaging to get a nicer look on the finished timber package. To give packages with such packaging the best conditions to withstand wind, rough handling, etc., CGV has developed a strap nailing unit that applies plastic washers to the bottom edge of the package. This is done completely automatically and the package does not need to stop when the washers are to be applied to the package.
